Obsan provides information on staff numbers and the future demand for health professionals. This information provides the basis for the long-term planning and management of human resources in the health care sector. The focus is on doctors and nursing staff. As is the case in all competence areas, work in the area of «Health professions and the supply of health care» takes account of issues of current policy relevance. For example, the issue of foreign health professionals and the looming shortage of family doctors are currently of special interest.
In addition, Obsan carries out various projects in areas of priority or concerning interesting developments in the health care structures. To facilitate health care planning in hospitals and nursing homes, Obsan makes available models that estimate future demand. Current outpatient and inpatient services as well as new developments are also described. The objective is always to use existing data to produce forecasts for the future.
