The number of people aged 65 and above is increasing in Switzerland. Prevention plays a great part in staying healthy when growing old, for example at the level of physical activity or the diet.

The specific indicators concerning people of 65 and above are defined in the two national strategies "Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases" and "Addiction". They describe this stage of life mainly from the angle of greater morbidity, state of health and the intake - notably of medicinal products, alcohol or tobacco.

Further information can also be obtained from the data by age for other sections. The Elderly people section below only lists a non-exhaustive selection of the most interesting indicators associated with the topic.

The data are presented in interactive graphical form with links to the sources.

A brochure  and two information sheets are also available on this topic: Health of the elderly in Switzerland and Health indicators for the elderly  (only in French and German).
