In 2022 the percentage of the population aged 18 to retirement age receiving a new illness-related IV/AI (Invalidity Insurance) pension was 0.28% or 15 372 people.

Over time men are slightly more likely to receive an IV/AI pension than women. Within the illness-related IV/AI pensions, mental illness continues to be causally involved in half of the cases (2022: 0.15%).

The share of new IV/AI pensions due to illness reached its highest value in 2003 (0,53%) and halved by 2015 (0,23%). The trend in new pensions is influenced by various IV/AI revisions as well as other factors (see definition).

This indicator is part of the Monitoring System Addiction and NCD (MonAM) of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).

Non-communicable diseases can lead to premature departures from the labour market. This implies costs for the State, the economy, the individual and the healthcare system. This indicator shows the percentage of new IV/AI pensions allocated each year by different illnesses (mental illness, nervous system, bone and musculoskeletal and other diseases).

The indicator allows estimates to be made of the illness-related disability risk of different population groups.
