The “nurses at work” study: Investigating nurses’ career paths over the last 40 years in Switzerland

The main factors determining the number of nurses available in the health system are training, recruitment and retention. The current study aims to identify the institutional and individual factors that encourage loyalty to the health sector and to show the reasons why people stay in or leave the profession.
The main reasons for leaving the health sector were "too little identification with the profession", "wanted more time for personal life", "eager to discover a new profession", "lack of support from hierarchy" and "start a new education".
